I love the challenge of creating an exhibit. When an interactive works as it is supposed to and when a child is awed by the beauty of a tiger or sheer size of an elephant skull, then I know I've done my job well.
Giant Pacific Octopus Exhibit
I designed this facade and created it to enclose the octopus tank and to match existing rock walls. Casts of sea stars, clams, conchs, etc. are embedded in the rock wall.
I created the graphics in conjunction with zoo staff. They include an interactive which challenges visitors to find the camouflaged octopuses. They can then push buttons to see if they were right. |
Sign: What is the Wolf Saying?
This graphic is designed to allow children to move the ears and tail of a gray wolf to help them better understand how wolves communicate.

Explorer's Outpost, Rosamond Gifford Zoo
Is it an omnivore, an herbivore, or a carnivore? The Explorer's Outpost is a child sized building where they can explore the differences between different kinds of animals. Touchable skulls, antlers, horns, and claws are mounted next to paintings of animals.
The rock work in the aviary was created with wire mesh and concrete. It was carved and painted to match the mural which helps to create depth, giving the illusion of greater space.
Penguin Exhibit Mural: Rosamond Gifford Zoo
Can you find the Humboldt Penguin? This mural shows all the penguins of the world at actual size. Which one matches the penguins on exhibit?
Signs: Town of DeWitt, NY
I created layout and design, and painted the illustrations for both signs.
